Latest Travel Advice for Thailand and Cambodia – 22 January 2014

Bangkok, Thailand

There is currently political unrest in Thailand, and the Thai Government has declared a 60-day State of Emergency in Bangkok from 22 January. This allows the government the ability to impose curfews, ban gatherings and restrict access. We strongly recommend travellers avoid demonstration areas and large gatherings.

Current foreign travel advice (including the UK, Australian and NZ governments) is to exercise caution but does not state there is a need to avoid travel. Stray departures will operate as normal unless the situation changes, and our Bangkok shop in the Khao San Road area remains open.

Preah Vihear Temple, Cambodia

Preah Vihear Temple is the subject of a long-running territorial dispute between Thailand and Cambodia, and while both sides are trying to work out a diplomatic solution there is currently some unrest in the area.

During this time, Stray will vary the travel day between Siem Reap – Kamphong Thom, to visit a sacred mountain and nearby National Park. We include a short jungle trek and swim in the pools at the bottom of the stunning waterfalls.
