Places like Myanmar (Burma) are hard to find: long cut off from tourism, with English signs a rarity and traditional dress still the norm, even an average day here can feel like off-the-beaten-track travel.

Heart of northern Thailand, university town, nature hub, and artistic centre, it’s difficult to argue with the claim that Chiang Mai is Thailand’s coolest city. More laid-back than Bangkok and less touristed than the islands, this gem in the northern hills is a long-time favourite with travellers – and for good reason. The combination of […]
Because of the sheer diversity, it’s difficult to pinpoint just a few reasons to visit Vietnam. We’ve managed to choose 5 country-wide reasons to visit. Any more, and we’d never finish!

From its archaeological ruins, colonial architecture, nearby jungles and wild nightlife, there’s no wonder this town is unavoidable on a Southeast Asia itinerary. But what’s best to see and do?
One of the many advantages of travelling with Stray Asia is private transportation. Along the Mekong River, Stray takes a 2-day slow boat trip, run by a local family. This allows us to travel at our own pace with plenty of room on the boat for both people and food, in stark contrast to the […]
Ah, Vang Vieng. Few places in Southeast Asia are so preceded by their reputation. Once known as Laos’ wildest party town, Vang Vieng was a place where you could spend long days. Here are a few of our favourite things to do in Vang Vieng during your Laos tour, whether you’re a party animal or […]
In January 2014 I had the privilege of guiding a group of Stray Journey-ers around New Zealand. I have been a Stray driver since 2012 but, as I used to drive the old “HOHO” (hop-on hop-off) circuit, this was my first chance to experience the new Stray Tours itinerary.
As a part of the training for my new job as Sales Manager in Australia, I was forced to go to Asia for two weeks… I know, tough right? But, someone has to do it! Here is a bit about my time there.
